Our new airport will welcome you in Kutaisi and you will head for the east of the country: the Great Caucasus with its beautiful Kazbegi, Tbilisi the capital of Georgia, the Kakheti region and the south of the country which are the cradle of wine and viticulture, and the Samthkhe region with its exceptional landscapes.

Arrival - Kutaisi

Arrival in Kutaisi.

Kutaisi is the second largest and the most important city in western Georgia. Kutaisi Airport is one of Georgia's three international airports. Most low-cost airlines operate from Kutaisi airport.

Visit Kutaisi and departure to Tbilisi

Visit the city and its UNESCO sites: Gelati monastery, which is the illustration of the Georgian culture from the 10th century to the 18th, the masterpiece of the Golden Age of medieval Georgia, the center of science and education during that period. After we visit recently renovated Bagrati cathedral – the symbol of the city, dated back to the 10th century.

Departure to Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. Tbilisi is an economic, social and political center of the country.

Visit the capital of Georgia

Discover the capital of Georgia - Tbilisi, visit the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, explore its old quarter with its cobbled streets and traditional houses with wooden balconies, on the banks of the Mtkvari River. We visit the city's points of interest: the Metekhi church and its plateau offering a superb view of the old town; the Narikala fortress which is the ancient symbol of the city; the baths district (Abanotubani) known for its sulfurous hot springs

In the afternoon, visit the National Museum and its collections of "golden treasures" from the ancient period.

Optional: Instead of visiting the museum, we suggest to go up to Mtatsminda to discover the splendid panorama over the city or visit the recently renovated Marjanishvili district with its Art Nouveau buildings.

Wine region, Panorama of Alazani Valley

Departure for the east of the country, the Kakheti region, to discover one of the region's most beautiful sites.

Visit to the Bodbe monastery, where Saint Nino stopped to rest during the spread of Christianity in Georgia, and learn about the history of the evangelizing saint, a very important figure in Georgian religion.

The journey continues to the small, charming town of Sighnaghi, with its cobbled streets and historic wall. Admire the splendid panorama of the Alazani Valley and the Caucasus. Visit the remarkable ethnographic museum with the exhibition of Niko Pirosmani - famous Georgian painter.

The tour continues to the local wine house with an old wine cellar, where you can learn about the traditional Georgian method of wine-making, very different from European practice. Tasting of local Qvevri wine.

Wine region with its cultural heritage

Visit Tsinandali, a historic palace and winery once owned by Alexander Chavchavadze, a 19th-century aristocratic poet. The palace building represents Georgian architecture with Italian inspiration.

Arrive in the capital and historical city of Kakheti – Telavi.

The next stop is Alaverdi Cathedral, dating from the 11th century.

Explore the Ikalto monastery and the ruins of its academy, where the eminent 12th-century poet Shota Rustaveli, author of Georgian literature's great masterpiece "The Knight in the Panther's Skin", studied.

Return to the capital city.

Discover UNESCO Sites and the Greater Caucasus

Departure for Mtskheta - former capital of the Kingdom of Iberia, visit to the Jvari ("Cross") Monastery perched on a hill overlooking the confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers. Visit to the 11th-century Svetitskhoveli ("Life-giving column") cathedral. Opportunity to buy handmade Georgian souvenirs.

On the way to Kazbegi, visit the Ananuri fortress, offering a picturesque view of the Jinvali reservoir. Cross the legendary Georgian military road, one of the most beautiful in the world, through valleys, ravines and finally the Cross Pass at 2300m altitude. Arrival at Stepantsminda, Kazbegi.

From the North to the central part of Georgia

Early in the morning, visit the 14th-century Trinity Church of Gergeti, 300m above the village of Stepantsminda. Option: it is possible to organize hiking up to Gergeti Church (6 km, 2h).

Departure for Gori - a Soviet city and central part of Georgia, birthplace of Joseph Stalin - where we can visit Joseph Stalin's house museum and his armoured vehicle.

Visit rock-hewn town and the region of fortresses

Discovery of the abandoned rock-cut town of Uplistsikhe, dating from the 2nd century and overlooking the Mtkvari River.

Continuation to the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, the southern part of the country. Stop at Borjomi, remarkable for its natural mineral springs, visit to the Borjomi public park and taste Borjomi's special mineral water.

Visit to the Rabati fortress in Akhaltsikhe - a renovated medieval fortress built in the 9th century, particularly beautiful when illuminated at night.

Visit of a cave town and departure for the West

Departure for the cave town of Vardzia, located on the left bank of the Mtkvari River. The rock-cut monastic complex is a picturesque Georgian monument from the 12th and 13th centuries, surrounded by high mountains and rocky cliffs, with a distinctive type of architecture. You visit this site, which requires a good level of physical fitness - the multi-storey caves are linked by narrow tunnels cut into the rock.

Continuation to the west of the country - Kutaisi.
